This is a four-week online course with a fixed start date and 6 months of access to the online learning platform.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand grape growing and winemaking in more detail
  • Identify and explain the main wine styles of the world
  • Recognise the world’s key grape varieties and explain how they influence wine style
  • Communicate about wine using the WSET’s shared tasting language
  • Make confident food and wine pairing decisions
  • Understand the production methods and main styles of sparkling and fortified wines

As you work through the online course, you complete short online quizzes and activities in the learning platform to check your progress.

Tasting is a highly recommended part of this course, and you will be encouraged to try a range of wines as you study. Inside the online classroom you will find a recommended wine list and suggestions on where to buy the wines. If you choose to purchase our tasting pack, you can also submit tasting notes for feedback.

Exam: WSET Level 2 Award in Wines

To obtain the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines certificate, you will need to pass a 50-question multiple-choice exam. You can choose to sit the exam in person in Barcelona or online for an additional fee.

You have 12 months from the start of your course to schedule your examination.

During the course, students have access to video material explaining how to taste wine and the main principles of food and wine pairing.

How is the WSET Level 2 Online Course different from studying in a classroom setting?

The qualification, learning outcomes and final exam are the same as the classroom course. The difference is that you study through the online learning platform, following a guided structure within the course schedule.

How does the Online Classroom work?

Once you have enrolled, we will send you instructions on how to access the online learning platform.

The course has a fixed start date and guided weekly structure, but you can complete the activities at times that suit you during the course period.

How long do I have access to the online classroom?

You will have access to the online learning platform for 6 months from the course start date.

What support will I receive during the course?

You will be supported by an educator throughout the course. If you have questions while studying, you can contact us for guidance and clarification.

Is the WSET Level 2 online exam also available online?

Yes. You can choose to sit the exam online for an additional fee of €50, or in person in Barcelona. You have 12 months from the course start date to schedule your exam.

What does the exam consist of?

The exam is a closed‑book test made up of 50 multiple‑choice questions. You will have 60 minutes to complete it, and you need a minimum score of 55% to pass.

What happens if I do not pass the exam?

If you do not pass on your first attempt, you can resit the exam on a future available exam date. A resit fee applies.

How much study time should I allow?

The course is designed to be completed over 3 to 4 weeks. Most students benefit from studying regularly each week and allowing additional time for revision before the exam.

What language is the course available in?

This course is available in English and Spanish.

How does tasting work in the online course?

Tasting is optional but highly recommended. Inside the online classroom you will find a recommended wine list and guidance on where to buy the wines, and if you choose to purchase our tasting pack, you can also submit tasting notes for feedback.

Is WSET Level 2 Award in Wines right for me?

WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is designed for students who already know the basics of wine and want a recognised intermediate qualification. It is ideal if you have completed WSET Level 1 or have equivalent experience, enjoy tasting wine and want a structured overview of the main grape varieties, wine styles and food pairing.

If you are already very confident in these areas and looking for deeper regional and production detail, WSET Level 3 may be more suitable.

Are there any entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements, but this course is best suited to students with some basic wine knowledge or anyone looking for a structured intermediate‑level introduction to wine.
