This is a three-week online course with a fixed start date and 12 months of access to the online learning material.
By the end of this course you’ll be able to:
- Understand and explain the basics of grape growing and wine making
- Identify the main styles of wines in the world
- Improve your understanding of food and wine pairings and apply them to your personal choices
- Know the major grape varieties of the world and how affect wine styles
- How to communicate about wine using a shared, global language
As you work through the online course, you will be submitting your homework assignments with your online instructor.
Tasting is a highly recommended part of studying for this course, and you will need to taste a range of wines. The list of recommendations can be found inside your online class, along with suggestions on where you can purchase them online.
To obtain the WSET Level 1 Award Certificate in Wine, you will need to successfully pass an in-person exam that is made up of 30 multiple-choice questions.
You have 12 months from the start of your course in which to schedule your examination, which must be taken in person at Calle Pedreres 12, 08004 Barcelona. During COVID-19 limitations, there is also the possibility to take the exam online!

How is this Introductory Online Wine Course different to studying in a classroom setting?
The qualification, exam, certification and topics covered are exactly the same; only the form of studying differs!
How does the Online Classroom work?
Once enrolled to a scheduled online WSET course, we’ll send you a welcome email that will detail how you can access the learning zone. All the material will be available here as soon as the course begins and will remain so for the duration of your course. You’ll be provided with guidelines on progression and then it’s then up to you to decide how often and whether or not you wish to learn in small bite sized chunks or perhaps in more in depth sessions.
How long do I have access to the online classroom?
You have access for a total of 1 year from the published course start date.
What access will I have to a teacher if I need extra help?
Throughout the entire course there will be scheduled live lessons led by Nika Shevela, and also opportunities for feedback on homework and tasting notes. If you have a query, simply get in touch with your teacher directly. You will have our full support throughout the duration of your WSET Course with us.
Is the exam of the ONLINE WSET LEVEL 1 Also offered online?
Yes! The exam is offered online as long as there are restrictions related to the COVID-19 situation
The exam is also offered in person and you have 12 months from the time you enrol in the course to sit the exam at our locations C/Pedreres 12, Barcelona. Due to the exceptional circumstances of COVID-19, these dates are subject to change if necessary.
What does the WSET Level 1 Online Award in Wine exam consist of
There will be a minimum of 4 available exam dates throughout the coming year. You will be notified of these dates and asked to confirm your attendance.
What happens if I do not pass the exam?
If you do not pass the exam on your first attempt, you can resit the exam during another scheduled exam date. A resit fee applies.

How does the wine tasting element work in the WSET LEVEL 1 online course?
We will send you a list of suggested wines, where you can buy them and how to submit tasting notes for feedback. We will also offer a service to have the correct wines sent to you directly. Tasting as part of an online course is optional though highly recommended.
How long should I study as part of this program?
The online course material itself should take around 6 hours to complete for most people. However, to get the most out of the course and score highly on your examination, we recommend 3 hours a week, regular participation in the live sessions and a further 2-3 hours revision before your examination.
¿En qué se diferencian un curso WSET Nivel 1 Online y su equivalente presencial?
La certificación, la prueba y los contenidos incluidos son exactamente los mismos; se diferencian solamente en el modo de aprendizaje.
¿Cómo funcionan los cursos online?
Tras inscribirte a un curso WSET online programado, te enviaremos un correo electrónico de bienvenida detallando la estructura del curso, así como las fechas y el horario de las sesiones online. Todas las sesiones serán grabadas y se enviarán a los estudiantes para que tengan una copia permanente del material, las diapositivas, los deberes y los tests.
¿Cómo será la comunicación con la profesora en el caso que necesite ayuda adicional o encuentre información que no entienda?
A lo largo de todo el curso habrá sesiones de formación en directo, impartidas por nuestra formadora principal en castellano, Nika Shevela, así como correcciones y feedback de deberes y de notas de cata. Si tienes alguna consulta, puedes contactar con la profesora directamente. Tendrás todo nuestro apoyo durante la realización de tu curso WSET.
¿El examen se realiza online?
No, en estos momentos el examen se realiza únicamente de forma presencial; NO OBSTANTE, dispones de 12 meses desde el momento de la inscripción para realizar el examen en nuestro centro situado en C/Pedreres 12, Barcelona. Debido a las circunstancias extraordinarias del COVID-19 las fechas están sujetas a posibles cambios.
El curso en inglés sí ofrece la posibilidad de hacer el examen online.
¿En qué consiste el examen de WSET Nivel 1 en Vinos?
Para obtener el título los candidatos deben aprobar un examen tipo test de 30 preguntas, a libro cerrado, con un punto por cada pregunta. La prueba tiene una duración de 45 minutos. Para aprobar el examen deberás obtener una nota mínima de 70%.
¿Qué ocurre si suspendo el examen?
Si no apruebas el examen a la primera, podrás volver a presentarte en la próxima fecha disponible, por un coste adicional.
¿Cuántas fechas de exámenes se ofrecerán?
Habrá un mínimo de 4 fechas de examen disponibles este año. Te notificaremos sobre las fechas y te pediremos confirmar tu asistencia.
¿Cuánto tiempo debería estudiar con este formato?
Para aprovechar el curso al máximo y obtener una puntuación alta en la prueba, recomendamos 3 horas de autoestudio a la semana, la participación regular en las sesiones online en directo y una revisión adicional de 2-3 horas antes del examen.
¿Cómo funcionará la parte de cata en un curso online?
Te enviaremos un listado de vinos recomendados con indicaciones de dónde adquirirlos y de cómo enviar tus notas de catas. También ofreceremos un servicio de entrega directa de los vinos seleccionados. En un curso online, la cata es una parte opcional aunque altamente recomendable.
